The art of the blend and a place called home.

As my mentor, Roastmaster Emeritus at Peet’s Coffee, Jim Reynolds teaches, a good blend is always greater than the sum of its parts. It is extremely important that a blend’s components complement rather than distract from each other. This is easier said than done. In our Rio de la Casa blend, rich notes of cocoa and sandalwood intermingle with a slight earthiness and nutty sweetness. This roasting technique is known as a cold blend, where the individual coffees are roasted separately to specifically varying degrees before being blended together in harmonious balance.

The name of this blend refers to a river in northern New Mexico, flowing from high in the Pecos Wilderness to the picturesque Mora Valley. Long ago, my late father purchased a small piece of land there. My family spends as much time as we can in this beautiful and special place, where my values were instilled, and where my soul is at home.

I like to think both Jim and my Dad would be proud of our Rio de la Casa Blend.
